Counting Calories
March 21, 2011
I don't often worry about what I eat. I'm still in that naive, youthful "I'll never get old" stage. I do exercise when I get a bit of a gut, but other than that, I eat what I want. I never thought I was eating more than 2000 calories a day because I am so petite that I don't often eat what I consider to be a full serving or as much as the average person eats. I recently realized how off base I was.
Several of my coworkers have decided to lose weight, and they track their food intake by using livestrong.com. Very little to do with biking or Lance Armstrong, livestrong.com can count your calories for you and even subtract from it when you exercise. What I've utilized on the site so far is the MyPlate page. As of this writing, I have consumed 1000 calories today. That's half my daily allowance, and it's already six o'clock in the evening. I normally pig out at night, so thanks to livestrong.com, I know I need to make different choices so I don't go over 2000.
Their database has nutrition information for thousands of name brand food, so you can find the exact amount of calories you're eating.
I'm already feeling the beginning of my suppertime hunger pains, but with this calorie tracker, I can monitor my eating to be sure I don't overindulge before bed. I won't have this body forever, but the longer I can keep it looking the way it does, the longer I will live. And that's what it's all about.
